Description
The curtain walls of St Fagans Castle, dating from the 20th century, are constructed from limestone rubble and stand about 5 meters high. On the east side, there is a segmental archway that provides access to the forecourt of the current house. The walls extend southward and westward along the crest of the hill where the castle is situated, then return north along the west side of the hill, with some sections integrated into the later 19th-century service ranges of the house. The southern section features single-storey lean-to stone and slate bothies that face the yard, which are currently used by the Cooper and Woodturner at the Museum of Welsh Life. The walls on the north and east sides of the forecourt include a wall walk and a castellated parapet. The castellations continue around the perimeter, although it is noted that these were added after 1825.
