The side of the obelisk facing the sea features a bronze statue of Winged Victory, depicted on a ship's prow, holding a sword and a laurel wreath. Below the statue, there is an inscription that reads, "In grateful memory of the Men of Penarth who died for their country in The Great War 1914 1918 also 1939 1945."
