Description
The Doddiscombsleigh War Memorial is a granite structure erected shortly after 1918. It features a roughly-hewn obelisk that stands on a plinth, which is set on an octagonal base with two steps. The plinth is smooth on three sides to display incised inscriptions, listing the names and ranks of those who died in the First World War under three Latin headings: ‘Pro Nobis’, ‘Pro Patria’, and ‘Pro Deo’. The fourth side of the plinth has a smoothed panel that bears the names of individuals who fell in the Second World War.
