Description
Flemingston Court features a U-plan combination farm building dating from the 18th century. The barn is located on the north-west side, adjacent to the house, with parallel ranges attached at either end. The building is constructed from local lias limestone rubble, with dressed voussoirs and quoins forming the north-west, north-east, and south-west sides of the farmyard. The roofs are primarily covered with Welsh slate, although some sections have been replaced with corrugated steel sheeting.
The barn, situated directly opposite Flemingston Court, has cambered heads to the central barn doors, flanking loft doors, and dove-box openings positioned below the eaves. The south-east side has been altered and significantly extended, featuring a short range that steps down at the north-east end, which has a monopitch roof and square-headed openings. A modern concrete block lean-to obscures much of the barn's farmyard elevation. The wings of the farmyard rise to approximately the eaves level of the barn; the south-west wing serves as a cowhouse, notable for its semicircular-headed openings, some of which are blocked, and has a corrugated roof at the south-east end. The north-east range includes a cartshed with mostly blocked cambered openings, and the roof extends down at the south-east end over a projection with slit ventilators, along with a loft door on the gable end.
During a resurvey in December 2003, only partial visibility was noted, with no specific features highlighted except for a plain, likely late 18th-century, principal rafter roof within the barn.
