Description

Longforgan Farm Steading is an early 19th-century agricultural building with a loose quadrangular plan, consisting of two facing L-plan ranges and a covered cattle court attached to the west range. The structure is built of rubble masonry and features piended slate roofs.

The south and west ranges have impressive blank wall elevations facing Main Street, with some blocked openings. To the east, there is a former farmhouse listed separately, and to the west, the garden of the present farmhouse, which is also listed separately.

On the inner elevations of the south range, there are large two-leaf doors to the left and two doors to the right. The west range features a large opening to the left and an advanced double-piled cattle court to the right, which has various doors and feeding openings, along with overlapping ventilation slates.

The outer elevation of the north range is mostly concealed by a corrugated metal Dutch barn to the right, with a door and half-piended hayloft above to the left. The inner elevation includes a large sliding door to the left, three stable doors, and three windows to the right, along with a hayloft door on the left return gable.

The east range has had its upper floor, likely a granary, removed and features a pentice roof. The outer elevation is blank, while the inner elevation has three segmental cart-arches.
