Description
The barn at Fishweir is an eight-bay structure dating from the 16th century. It features coursed rubble walls with a batter at the base of the south gable. Currently, the barn is roofless and floorless, and it stands out due to its height, measuring approximately 7.6 meters to the eaves. On the east and west elevations, there are large opposed cart doorways, each topped with a voussoired arch. At the far north end of both the east and west elevations, there are matching square-headed doorways with timber lintels. The north end has a later partition, which was possibly used for cattle and later adapted to accommodate a mechanical threshing machine, of which a flywheel remains in a small lean-to extension at the north end. Putlog holes are present on all elevations. Additionally, a later byre range to the north has been converted into residential use.
