Description

This is a row of ten terraced houses, numbered 1 to 10, forming a crescent shape. They were built in an unusual style, drawing together influences of Moorish, Arts and Crafts, and early Modernist design, including flat roofs. The houses are rendered and have flat roofs with decorative coping stones. They feature multipane casement windows with hoodmoulds, and boarded front doors with a central glazed section. Each house is generally two storeys high, with an additional tower room.

The design of the houses is similar but not identical. Typically, each has a centrally located doorway adorned with mosaic work in a lunette shape, flanked by small hall windows. Above the doorway is a two-light casement window. One side of the entrance features an advanced block with a two-storey, splayed bay window, while the other has a square turret that steps back from the main facade and rises above the roofline. The turret has a single window on each storey and a doorway leading to its flat roof. To the rear of the turret, a narrow bay, set back from the turret, joins separate properties. A single-storey, flat-roofed block projects in front of both the turret and the entrance bay, also linking properties. The rear elevation is simpler, with a three-window design. The parapets of numbers 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 are swept and stepped, creating a central feature of the terrace.

Originally, the terrace was enhanced by a curved yew hedge with individual boarded gates, each with full-width hinges. Number 6 Pwll-y-Min Crescent retains its original casement windows and front door.
