Description
No. 8 Pwll-y-Min Crescent is part of a terrace of ten houses designed in a crescent shape, showcasing a unique blend of Moorish, Arts and Crafts, and early Modernist architectural styles. The houses feature painted render and flat roofs with coping. Each unit has multipane casement windows beneath hoodmoulds and boarded doors with a central glazed quarried light. The buildings are two storeys high and include a tower room.
While the houses are similar, they are not identical. Each typically has a doorway positioned roughly in the center, adorned with mosaic work in a lunette, flanked by small hall windows, and a 2-light casement window above. One side of the entrance features a prominent block with a two-storey splayed bay window, while the opposite side has a stepped-back square turret with a flat roof that rises above the main roofline. The turret has a single window on each storey and a doorway leading to the flat roof. Set back from the turret is a narrow bay that links separate properties, and in front of both the turret and the entrance bay is a single-storey flat-roofed block that also connects the properties.
The rear of the house presents a plain three-window elevation. The terrace is characterized by swept and stepped parapets, particularly at Nos. 3 & 4 and 5 & 6, which form the central part of the row. The overall design is enhanced by a curved yew hedge with individual boarded gates featuring full-width hinges. No. 8 is painted differently from the others but retains its windows, although the door has been altered.
