Description
Nos 1-10 Pwll-y-Min Crescent are terraced houses that form part of a crescent-plan terrace of ten homes, showcasing a unique architectural style that blends Moorish, Arts and Crafts, and early Modernist influences with flat roofs. The houses feature painted render and flat roofs with coping. They have multipane casement windows beneath hoodmoulds and boarded doors with a central glazed quarried light. Each house is two storeys tall and includes a tower room.
While the units are generally similar, they are not identical. Each house typically has a centrally located doorway adorned with mosaic work in a lunette, flanked by small hall windows, and a 2-light casement window above. One side of the entrance features an advanced block with a two-storey splayed bay window, while the other side has a stepped-back square turret with a flat roof that rises above the main roofline. The turret includes a single window on each storey and a doorway leading to the flat roof. Set back from the turret is a narrow bay that links separate properties, and projecting in front of the turret and entrance bay is a single-storey flat-roofed block that also connects the properties.
The rear elevation of the houses is plain with three windows. Nos. 3 and 4, as well as 5 and 6, have swept and stepped parapets that, although not matching, create a focal point in the centre of the terrace. The overall design is further enhanced by a curved yew hedge with individual boarded gates that feature full-width hinges.
It is noted that No 1 has plastic windows and a replaced door.
