Description
No 1 Manor Cottages is a two-storey rubble building that consists of two cottages arranged in an imaginative, approximately Z-shaped plan. This layout provides each cottage with an individual L-shaped elevation featuring three windows and a projecting wing on the left side. The north side retains a timber porch located within the angle, while the south side has a simple gabled hood. A distinctive feature of the design is that both cottages have projecting chimney breasts on the left gable ends, each with twinned, diagonally set stone stacks. The building has a modern tiled roof with boarded eaves. The windows are casement style, equipped with Tudor dripmoulds and dressed stone surrounds; the ground floor windows are deeper, and there is a shallower window above each boarded door entrance. The outlines of different pitches in the gables suggest a steeper roof and earlier origins, which may have been influenced by the removal of deep bargeboards.
