Description

Tabor Eglwys Presbyteriadd Cymru is a chapel built in coursed grey rubble with Pennant stone dressings and a slate roof. The front elevation is raised and features a railed enclosing wall, showcasing a rich Beaux Arts style. The design includes a wide central gabled bay flanked by narrower side bays, which are highlighted by rusticated pilasters. The central entrance consists of a pair of doors set in concave jambs, positioned on a channelled rusticated base and beneath a semi-circular modillioned canopy that rises from squat Ionic-derived columns with noticeable entasis and a pulvinating frieze. The spandril is rusticated radially and features a prominent key stone inscribed with "TABOR" and "MC" on the key. Flanking the entrance are 6-paned architraved windows topped with dentilled cornices. The side bays contain 18-pane sash windows within architraves and have exaggerated cornices with keystones. The upper level of the elevation showcases paired central round-headed windows that rise into the modillioned pediment, along with a continuous line of paned windows divided by Ionic-type columns similar to those below, but smaller in scale and adorned with a deep plain architrave and modillion cornice. The tops of the pilasters feature intricate carved decoration. The front of the chapel extends one bay at each end. The sides are rendered and include paned windows.

The front forecourt is elevated on a rock-faced stone retaining wall and is surrounded by iron railings with decorative stanchions, with gates leading to steps at each end. At the rear, there is a Sunday School and Vestry with a hipped roof and margin glazed windows. The building was not accessible at the time of inspection in January 1997.
