Description
There are two chest tombs located side by side in the churchyard of St James Church.
The first tomb is made of sandstone and features Gothic end pilaster blocks and moulded side panels with lobed corners. It is set on a chamfered base and has an edge-moulded ledger slab. This tomb commemorates Thomas Griffith, who died in 1840 at the age of 8 months, as well as his father Griffith David, who died in 1863, and his daughter Ann, who was added later.
The second tomb is also made of sandstone and includes reeded end pilaster blocks, with sides that have a raised panel. It has a moulded ledger slab and is dedicated to David Jones of Ballas, who died in 1830, along with others, including Thomas Jones, who died in 1832, and Ann Roberts, their daughter, who died in 1889 and was added to the back of the tomb.
