Description
The churchyard cross in St James' churchyard, Pyle, is made of limestone and features a medieval base consisting of four high steps, with the lower step having a projecting nosing, measuring approximately 3.3 meters square in total. The top step supports a square plinth that has a hollow chamfered skirt and a chamfered top. On this plinth stands a tapered square section shaft, with chamfered angles, rising about 3 meters to a decorated capital. It is important to note that the shaft and crucifix head were replaced in 1925. Two sections of the original shaft are located by the west side of the porch.
