Description
18 Neath Road is a bank constructed in a free-classical style, likely dating to the 18th century. The building has a single-storey frontage but rises to two storeys at the rear, concealed behind a flat roof with hidden roof lights.
The front facade, consisting of six bays, is built of rusticated masonry with moulded architraves around the openings. The outer bays are wider and project slightly. A small-pane sash window is on the left side, and a doorway with a fielded-panel door is on the right. Above the doorway is a frieze of swags topped by a segmental pediment supported by consoles. The two central bays contain sash windows, flanked by similar windows arranged in two tiers. A string course above the level of the main windows serves as a hood mould over small, circular windows in the outer bays. A deep, moulded cornice sits below the parapet.
The right-hand side wall continues the style of the front facade for a single bay before transitioning to a two-storey section constructed of coursed, rock-faced stone. This section features three sash windows under lintels on each storey. An ashlar chimney stack is located at the end of the wall. A two-storey addition is present at the rear. The left-hand side wall has two large, recessed blank panels, although the wall has been extended towards the rear.
The building has not been inspected internally.
