Description
This is a classical-style chapel built in the 18th century. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced sandstone with ashlar key and impost blocks, and has a synthetic slate roof. The front gable has plain, deep angle pilasters. Early 20th-century Y-tracery has been inserted into the original window openings. A central round-headed doorway features double doors with fielded panels, surmounted by a later overlight with Art Nouveau glass. An impost block on the right side bears an inscription detailing the dates of the chapel's foundation and the current building. The outer bays have single round-headed windows. The upper level windows are aligned with an impost band. The central bay has a triple round-headed window, with the centre light being larger, and the outer bays have similar single windows. A keyed oculus sits below the apex. The right side wall has a later render and contains three windows with margin-lit horned sashes; these are flat-headed at the lower level and round-headed at the upper level, providing light to the gallery. The left side wall is similar, also with a later render, and has shallow segmental heads to the lower tier of windows. Behind it is a lower, narrower organ projection with round-headed side windows. A disabled access ramp is present.
The vestibule contains three coloured glass panels flanked by plain wooden doors leading to the main chapel and the gallery stairs. The gallery stairs have balusters and newels. The main chapel has scribed plaster walls and a three-sided raked gallery supported by short, bulging Tuscan cast iron columns on tall square wooden bases. The gallery front has blind fretwork panels. The boarded and ribbed ceiling has six circular vents. Former window frames with margin lights are set into the deep coving.
The chapel contains panelled pine box pews. The set fawr has no permanent seat but is framed by a balustrade with moulded square balusters and shaped and fluted newels. The pulpit is flanked by steps with stylised arches above plain balusters; the plain balusters continue above panelling. The polygonal pulpit has a central memorial plaque with raised gold letters dedicated to the Reverend D.B. Jones, a former minister who died in 1962. The baptistery is concealed behind the pulpit beneath floorboards, and a recess under a plain round arch houses the organ.
