Description

These offices, including the “Cane Connection” shop, are built in a Free Baroque style. They date from the 18th century and are constructed of ashlar, featuring pink and white banding. The front facade is three bays wide, rising to four storeys and an attic. A tall gable is topped with a dragon finial and incorporates a circular window, supported by volutes. The corners are distinguished by polygonal buttresses each crowned with an urn finial. Flat pilasters adorn the facade, with a cartouche held within a scrolled pediment above the central bay. Moulded cornices and cill bands run along the building. Elaborate scrolled pediments feature above the windows on the second and third floors. The first floor's central window is given special treatment with an aedicule, incorporating a curvilinear pediment topped by a seated lion, flanked by bulbous, fluted columns with Corinthian capitals. The side windows are arched, with cartouche keyblocks and bowed balustraded aprons. Modern glazing is present throughout. The overall shop front includes a recessed entry on the right.
