Description
The Belvedere is a Grade II listed Gothick prospect tower built in an octagonal shape, designed to resemble a medieval chapter house. The structure features rubble-faced walls with dressed freestone detailing and a taller polygonal stair turret at the northwest angle. It has panelled parapets, which are broken, above an eaves stringcourse, and diagonal corner buttresses with set-offs. The tower includes pointed chamfered lights with dripmoulds and Y-tracery facing the road. On the west side, there is a tall blocked chamfered archway and a pointed blocked doorway leading to the stair turret, which has a corbelled top and cross loops.
At the time of inspection, the building was in derelict condition. Inside, there is a remarkable vaulted interior featuring a central ribbed pier and wall shafts that support slender ribs leading to centralized brick vaults.
