Description
This building comprises a late 18th-century chapel, significantly altered in the mid-19th century, along with an attached hall or schoolroom. The front elevation is constructed of snecked brown stone freestone quoins and dressings, with a rendered (plastered) northeast side and a rear wall of rubble. The roof is slate.
The central bay of the chapel is advanced and gabled, featuring a pinnacle. A roundel is positioned above a pair of round-headed, two-light windows with Italianate tracery. A ground-floor panel reads "Bethel Erected 1770, New Bethel Erected 1842, Rebuilt 1870". The returns of the central bay have an upper-floor round-headed window, while a square-headed entrance doorway is located to the right. The outer bays feature upper round-headed windows and round-headed doorways fitted with Palladian stone doorframes, panelled double-leaf doors, and overlights. The right-hand elevation is rendered and contains two round-headed windows on each floor, set within continuous moulded architraves. The rear of the chapel is of rubble construction with two round-headed windows on each floor, featuring brick surrounds.
To the left of the chapel's front is the hall or schoolroom, with a gabled front featuring a group of three small windows and a round window below. A round-headed entrance doorway is flanked by round-headed windows on either side. A more recent extension has been added to the left of the hall.
