Description

This is a farm complex dating back to the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations. The complex is arranged around a farmyard accessed via an arched entry. The buildings are constructed of rubble stone with slate roofs, with colourwashed roughcast on the older sections, stucco on a rebuilt range to the left, and whitewashed outbuildings at the rear.

The archway has a gable with overhanging verges and a small circular window above a large, two-storey arch dated JC 1821 on the keystone. It is flanked by tooled stone piers and has a recessed, blank tympanum. To the right of the archway is a range with two square, six-pane sashes serving the service range and farmhouse. This range also features three six-pane sashes above two twelve-pane sashes, and a central door with an overlight. Grey brick end stacks are present.

A farmhouse of around 1900 is located to the left. It has a stuccoed front, a steeper pitched slate roof, and 20th-century grey brick end stacks. The front has a three-window arrangement of sashes with marginal glazing bars, and a central, enclosed gabled porch. A two-window service range, part of the 1821 range and sharing the same roof height, has windows that were lengthened around 1900 to match. The left end wall features a six-pane sash above a sash with marginal bars, to the right of a rear wing. The rear wing has a brick ridge stack and a three-window range with six-pane sashes above two sixteen-pane sashes, and one with marginal glazing bars.

Beneath the archway, a cobbled passage has timber joists and a timber lintel leading to a rear opening with a triple casement. To the right, there is a window on each floor of the original 1821 range, alongside a large, parallel rear range added around 1900 to the rebuilt farmhouse, constructed of stone with brick window surrounds and similar details to the rear wing at right angles. A single-storey range extends downhill from the rear wing to a taller cartshed with double doors and a three-by-three-by-three-pane overlight.

To the left, the rear of the service range has a door and two windows, while the rear of the 1821 farmhouse features an outshut with a door and window in the end wall. An attached, long single-storey range runs downhill, with a short return at the top end joining the house end wall. This range includes four broad, full-height doorways and two attached ranges at right angles. The first, at the upper end and parallel to the rear of the house, is small and open-fronted, comprising four bays, enclosing a narrow cobbled yard, and includes an outshut rear with four low doors. The second, at the bottom, is longer and slightly taller, featuring three square windows under the eaves and broad, full-height double doors to the left of the center, facing up the yard. Three roof-lights are present.

The buildings were not available for internal inspection.
