Description
Brychgoed Independent Chapel is a chapel built from squared purple rubble stone, topped with a half-hipped slate roof featuring flat eaves and overhanging verges. A brick chimney is located at the right end of the building. The lateral front has six large pointed openings, which include two long windows in the center, two short outer gallery lights, and two doors that are slightly set in from the gallery lights. All pointed arches are adorned with cut stone voussoirs, and the windows have tooled stone sills. The glazing features two-light Y-tracery with sliding sashes, each having an acutely-pointed head, Y-glazing bars, and intersecting glazing bars in the small apex. The doors are boarded, with plain roughcast above in the tympana. A plaque in the center reads 'Brych Goed Adeiladwyd 1740 Ail Adeiladwyd 1844 gan yr Annibynwyr'.
The right end wall is rendered, while the left end wall is made of rubble stone and includes a square 12-pane upper level sash window in a purple stone surround with stone voussoirs. The rear wall is rendered and lined to resemble ashlar, featuring one upper center sash window and two similar windows on the ground floor, all with small marginal panes and stone sills.
The interior of the chapel does not have a gallery, as it was removed in 1939. Most fittings appear to date from 1876, although the great seat may be from 1844. The pulpit is positioned between the center windows and features two herring-bone panels on its projecting front, with turned balusters on either side and leading up to the platform stairs. Each newel is panelled and topped with finials. Behind the pulpit is a high panelled pulpit back with a pediment. In front of the pulpit is a panelled great seat with curved angles, and enclosed timber porches are located in the angles. The chapel contains three blocks of pine pews.
