Description

Le Chateau, also known as Llan Wysg, is a one-storey house with an attic, built in a picturesque Gothic style. The structure features a main range with a central wing at the back and a tower offset to the right. It is constructed of coursed, rock-faced sandstone with larger quoins, and the roof is made of banded grey and red tiles, adorned with openwork barge boards and pendant finials. There is a tall stone stack to the right of the center and an external stack to the left of the main range, both featuring a recessed round-headed panel. The rear wing also has a similar ridge stack.

The main range has a symmetrical three-bay entrance front, with the central bay being advanced under a gable. The lower storey includes an arch with a two-centre head beneath a hood mould, leading into a porch that contains a half-lit door with mullioned lights. Above the arch is a shield displaying a dragon and the date of the building. The attic features a sill band and a two-light casement window with Y-tracery under a two-centred head and a hood mould. The outer bays have three-light windows in the lower storeys under hood moulds, and two-light half-dormers. The right gable end includes a V-shaped bay window in the lower storey and a two-light casement in the attic.

The tower is three-stage, square in plan in the lower stages, transitioning to octagonal in the upper stage. Above the modillion eaves is a conical lead spirelet. The upper stage contains narrow windows, the middle stage features a two-light casement with a sill band, and the lower storey has a half-lit door with a hood mould offset to the right. The wing has a two-light half-dormer on the right side wall and a two-light casement in the lower left, similar to the front. The building was not inspected at the time of the survey in December 1997.
