Description
The barn at Oldcastle Court Farm is a 19th-century structure built from roughly coursed and squared red sandstone rubble, topped with a stone tile roof. It features central opposed cart doors, which are flanked by two recessed slit vents beneath oak lintels on each side. The gable ends also have slit vents located in the apex. The rear elevation mirrors the front but is situated on slightly higher ground. Attached to the left is a former cowhouse range that has been re-roofed.
This barn consists of five bays with a central threshing floor. Unlike many barns in the area, it does not have an integral cowhouse under one end due to its construction on level ground. There may have been a tallet at either end, which would have been ventilated by the gable slits; however, while there are some holes in the walls, there is no other evidence to confirm this. The barn features four Queen strut trusses with three tiers of trenched purlins, and the secondary rafters and battens are also original.
