Description
Chancery House, formerly known as Prospect House, is a Georgian building dating from the 18th century. It features a symmetrical, two-storey structure with an attic and a five-window roughcast front, set on a coursed rubble plinth. The hipped slate roof has bracket eaves and includes two pitched roof dormers with horned sash windows, along with rendered end chimney stacks. The front has recessed 12-pane sash windows adorned with keystones. A central porch with a hipped roof, also featuring bracket eaves, is supported by panelled pillars and includes panelled reveals and a six-panel door topped with an intersecting tracery fanlight.
The right side elevation has a similar design, with one window on the first floor and two windows on the ground floor. There is a lower cross range extending up Chancery Lane, which has a rubble rear gable end. The rear of the building is roughcast and includes modern casement windows and one small pane sash. A modernised two-storey cross range is located to the right, while a massive rubble chimney stack remains from a former range on the left rear. The property features a stone flagged rear courtyard.
Inside, the building retains a broad entrance hall and an openwell staircase with a closed string, turned balusters, and a swept-up handrail. Additional interior features include window seats, panelled shutters, six-panel doors, and an arched recess in the main bedroom.
