Description

Vine Tree Cottage and 2 Vine Tree Cottages is a two-storey house built from rubble stone, featuring a roughcast front and a pebble-dashed rear, all painted cream, with a slate roof. There is a stone chimney stack to the right of the center with a diagonal shaft, a replaced stone stack to the right, and a 19th-century stone stack to the left. The front has three windows, with No. 2 Vine Tree Cottages occupying the unit on the right, which has two recently added roof dormers. The upper storey features centre-pivoting small-pane windows to the center and left, and a three-light window to the right with ovolo mullions. To the right of the center, there is a doorway with a shaped head and a boarded door fitted with strap hinges. There is an enlarged casement window to the right of the doorway and a small-pane casement window to the left. To the left of the center is a single-storey former dairy with modern openings, along with an additional projection of rubble stone that has an end stone stack and replaced openings, added in the 19th century. The gable end to the right features a stepped external stack supported by first-floor corbels, along with a continuous drip stone at the eaves level. The rear elevation includes a shallow stair turret to the left of center, with casement windows added to each storey. To the right of the stair turret is a small-pane casement window in the upper storey, set in an earlier opening, and three fixed lights in the lower storey at pavement level. The left gable end has a modern one-storey projection. The property was not inspected at the time of the survey in August 1997.
