Description

Castle Cottage is a one-and-a-half storey, double fronted cottage built from rubble stone and topped with a slate roof featuring end stone stacks. The lower storey has openings that are under renewed timber lintels, and there are gabled dormers. The gable ends have inserted openings also with timber lintels, and there is a lean-to at the rear.

Inside, the cottage has closely spaced stop-chamfered cross beams with no joists. There are fireplaces at both ends, each with a projecting chimney breast, and the hall fireplace includes a stone staircase to the right. The roof is three-bay and features upper crucks, which may have been reused from a dwelling shown on a 1538 estate map, along with collars and stop-chamfered tie beams.
