Description

This is a house, originally a single dwelling, now divided into two separate houses called Yeoman Cottage and Vine Cottage. The building dates from the 16th century or earlier, with subsequent additions and alterations made over time. It is constructed with a timber frame, with the ground floor finished in red brick and the first floor covered in tiles. The roof is tiled, with a steeply pitched gable to the original central section. An additional cross-wing extends to the right, flush with the front and slightly projecting at the rear. Further additions have been made to both the left and right sides.

The original central section is one and a half storeys high, while the additions are two storeys high. The left section has a gable and higher eaves, and a lower ridge line than the main range. The cross-wing has a hipped roof to the front and rear, with higher eaves than the main range. The addition to the right has higher eaves and a lower ridge, with a hipped roof to the right. There is a brick gable end stack projecting to the left and several red and grey brick stacks at the right end of the left section. A brick ridge stack is located towards the left end of the right addition.

The fenestration is irregular, featuring five casement windows: one three-light window towards the centre of the left section, one three-light eaves dormer with a hipped roof on the main range, one three-light window in the cross-wing, and one three-light and one two-light window in the right addition. A ribbed door is set under a lean-to canopy to the left end of the cross-wing, leading into Yeoman Cottage. A boarded door with rectangular lights is situated towards the centre of the right addition, providing access to Vine Cottage. A narrower rear range runs parallel, with the right gable end weatherboarded, serving Vine Cottage. The interior has not been inspected.
