Description
Castle Bridge, also known as Canal Bridge No. 152, is a hump-back bridge constructed from rubble sandstone. It features a segmental arch made up of thin voussoirs and has a low parapet with flat coping. The abutments curve outwards on both sides, and the parapet is finished with square end piers. On the eastern side, there is a cast iron plaque displaying the bridge number in relief at the keystone position. The towpath runs beneath the bridge on the northern side, where it includes a stone kerb, while on the southern side, there is a stringcourse that is roughly at water level. The deck of the bridge is a grass track, and there is one lozenge-shaped cast iron weight restriction sign along with one post. A large former quarry is located adjacent to the bridge.
