Description
H.R. Grant, which includes a former flannel mill at the rear, is a Victorian building that stands three storeys tall with a three-window scribed rendered front. It features a slate roof with wide front eaves and rubble end chimney stacks topped with stock brick caps, along with an advanced chimney breast on the left end. The building has sash windows with inset marginal glazing bars arched over the first floor. The shop front is notable for its fine design, including a moulded cornice, raised fascia lettering, and composite capitals on the pilaster strips at the right end, flanking a left-hand entrance that has tall arched panels in the reveals and a door. The shop windows have arched lights, and there is a splayed central entrance with double doors and a panelled stallriser. At the rear, there are tripartite sash windows and one small pane sash window, along with a six-panel door.
Adjacent to the main building is a slightly lower four-storey and attic former flannel mill constructed from rubble, featuring a half-hipped slate roof. The north elevation has six windows, with a central cross gable that contains a semi-circular small-pane metal-frame casement window. Below this, there are timber frame windows with voussoirs and small casement openings. The left-hand bay, located immediately behind the house, has small pane sashes. There is a three-light attic window on the northwest end above combined second and first floor openings, while the entrance below has been converted for garage use. The southwest side has two swept roof attic windows and boarded doors.
Inside the mill, there is a reused chamfered beam. The house features stone flagged and partially cobbled cellars, which may have originally served as an outside courtyard, as indicated by the inserted floor timbers.
