Description
J. Geoffrey Aspin is a building likely dating from the 17th century that has undergone significant alterations. It features a two-storey and attic design with a three-bay front made of coursed rubble, highlighted by an advanced flat roof shop front. The building has a tall hipped slate roof, complete with end brick chimney stacks and an additional brick stack at the front left corner above a slate-roofed cross passage.
The front includes flat-roofed modern dormers with casement windows, as well as two widely spaced small-pane sash windows on the first floor. To the left side of the shop front, there is a tripartite small-pane sash window, while the right side features a broad horned sash window. The shop front is adorned with a wide cornice and pilaster strips at the ends, flanking paired central entrances that have fanlights and scribed panelled doors, with the right door being half-glazed. A similar door leads to the cross passage.
Inside, there is a rubble chimney breast at the left end, and the rear of the building has been modernised, featuring a cross range to the left that extends to the edge of the Castle grounds. The interior has also been modernised.
