Description
Smithy Cottage is a house that was formerly a smithy, built from squared rubble stone with slate roofs, which were originally stone tiled. The eaves overhang, and there are paired octagonal brick chimney stacks on a stone base at the north end. The building is one storey and has an attic, featuring a three-bay west front with a stepped gable on the projecting central bay. An unusually stilted hoodmould is present over a square gable window, which has a stone sill and 20th-century glazing.
There is a flat Tudor arch leading to a broad central cart entry, constructed with stone voussoirs; this entry now has recessed glazing and a door. Similar Tudor arches are found on the doors on either side, with the left door now replaced by a 20th-century window and a 20th-century door in the right one. The south gable has two cambered-headed windows, with the lower one located in a blocked doorway. A doorway is located at the rear, which also features a swept roof dormer. The north gable end is blank, and the building has overhanging verges. At the rear, there is a lean-to pigsty. The property has not been inspected.
