Description

The former barn at Penmyarth is a one-storey structure built of rubble sandstone, topped with a stone tile roof and corrugated iron on the rear slope. On the south side, there is a full-height doorway that once served as a cart passage, which is offset to the right and features a raking canopy along with 19th-century double boarded and ribbed doors. To the right of this doorway, there is a tall narrow breather, while to the left, there is a 4-light Gothick window with a two-centred head, intersecting tracery, and a brick surround, likely salvaged from another building on the estate and inserted in the later 19th century. The right gable end has triangular breathers. Attached to the left side is the remains of a walled garden. At the rear, there is another full-height cart passage doorway with boarded doors and a similar raking canopy as the front. To the left of this doorway is a small opening, and to the right, there is an inserted full-height opening. The building was not inspected at the time of the survey in August 1997.
