Description

The Three Tuns Public House is an early 17th-century building that incorporates part of a 16th-century timber-framed structure with a three-bay cruck truss, which is largely encased in stone. It is two stories high with a three-window front that features roughcast over close studding and a plinth. The building has two gables towards the corner, with the one on the left being broader. The slate roof is topped with a massive central chimney stack that has been heightened in brick.

On the left side, there are paired horned sash windows in a flush frame above a three-light bar window with a cornice. Various horned sash windows are present on the right side. The central doorcase is adorned with a bracket hood, fluted pilasters, and a boarded door. There is an additional three-light bar window on the left gable end, which features a broader staircase, a bracket hood, and double doors.

At the rear, there is a single-storey rubble cross range that adjoins Bridge Street. This section has a stone chimney stack that has also been heightened in brick, along with two small sash windows and mounting steps in the angle to the front. A timber lintel is present over a blocked window in the rear gable end, and the right rear is made of whitewashed rubble.

The original roof structure has not been seen, but it is said to retain a dog-leg staircase and post and panel partitions.
