Description
Gwernvale Farmhouse is a two-storey building with three windows, featuring a very steeply pitched hipped slate roof and brick chimney stacks. The exterior includes end pilaster strips and lugged architraves around the sash windows, which have glazing bars. A central half-glazed porch with a pitched roof and timber gable adds to its character. There are sash windows on the first floor at the rear, and the west gable is finished with a gable end.
Inside, the farmhouse retains a 17th-century dog-leg staircase with intersecting turned banisters. An upstairs room is panelled to full height on three sides, complete with a moulded cornice. These interior features likely date back to the time when the estate was owned by the Proger family, who were known as strong Royalists and held positions in state under the Stuart monarchy. The roof timbers are later additions, possibly from the same period as the rendering.
