Description
72 The Watton is part of a row of four three-storey houses, numbered 69 to 72, which includes a rear wing for No. 72. Each house features a two-window front, with a slate hipped roof and brick stacks along the ridge. The fronts are either stuccoed or rendered, and there are bands at the second and first floor levels, along with Ionic pilasters on the first floor. The second floor has small square sash windows, although those at No. 72 have been modernised. Each first-floor window consists of two French casements that open onto 19th-century iron balconies. The ground floor features 20-pane sash windows set in plain reveals.
The round-headed doorways have fanlights adorned with petal tracery, and each house has a six-panelled door. The rear wing of No. 72, facing southeast onto Charles Street, is two storeys tall with two windows, rendered and topped with a slate roof. It has sash windows with glazing bars and a porch located against the northeast return wall.
