Description

Oakfield is a 19th-century building featuring a three-window southwest front with a slightly off-center entrance bay. This bay has a broad arched doorway and panelled double doors topped with a traceried fanlight, although the porch has been removed. The northwest front has five windows, including a central bow and lower windows that nearly reach the ground. To the left, there is a two-light cellar window. The northeast front has one window with a 12-pane sash above an Adamesque Venetian window that has a traceried head.

To the left, there is a similar four-window cross range with a stone tile roof, which has a later addition of a third storey featuring small pane casement windows that rise slightly above the eaves, with various sashes below. An outbuilding made of brick and rubble extends at the southeast corner, and another brick outbuilding closes the southeast side of the courtyard, which is overlooked by a small pane sash staircase window with a Gothick head.

Inside, the building retains its original detailing. The square entrance hall leads to an inner staircase hall, which features a curved and cantilevered stone staircase with an open string, S-shaped treads, and some shaped uprights. The interior also includes Regency fireplaces, four-panel doors, and panelled shutters, along with a beaded cornice in the Drawing Room and a modern Adamesque ceiling in the Dining Room that has an arched recess.
