Description
Harley's Almshouses are a group of single-storey buildings, except for Nos. 6 and 7, which are two-storey with one window front. They are constructed from coursed rubble with a plinth and feature a slate roof with overhanging eaves and brick chimney stacks set diagonally, with the taller stacks located at the center flanking a two-window pebbledash gable for Nos. 6 and 7. The windows and door openings have voussoir lintels and are fitted with paired casement windows that have diamond leaded glazing and boarded shutters secured with C-shaped fastenings, along with boarded doors. The buildings have slated lean-to hoods over the doors, which are twinned except for the end houses.
A 1927 addition includes casement windows, a crucifix above a datestone, and a coat of arms in a diamond recess. A modern tablet on the property states, "Harley Almshouses, these almshouses were built and endowed by Frances Harley in memory of her Sister Martha Harley of Trebarried in 1836; they were modernised in 1974." The rear of the building features modern windows and a central lean-to.
