Description
Harley's Almshouses are a group of single-storey buildings, with Nos. 6 and 7 being two-storey structures, each featuring a one-window front. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble and have a plinth. They are topped with a slate roof that has overhanging eaves and features brick chimney stacks set diagonally, with the taller stacks located at the center, flanking a two-window pebbledash gable for Nos. 6 and 7. The windows and door openings have voussoir lintels and are designed in a Tudor style. The paired casement windows have diamond leaded glazing and are fitted with boarded shutters that have C-shaped fastenings, along with boarded doors.
The buildings feature slated lean-to hoods over the entrances, which are twinned except for the end houses. There are casement windows added in 1927, and a crucifix is positioned above a datestone that includes a coat of arms in a diamond recess. A modern tablet below the datestone states, "Harley Almshouses, these almshouses were built and endowed by Frances Harley in memory of her Sister Martha Harley of Trebarried in 1836; they were modernised in 1974." The rear of the property has modern windows and a central lean-to addition.
