Description
Felin Wen, also known as White Mill, is a 2-storey corn mill with an adjoining warehouse. The building features pebble-dashed rubble-stone walls and a slate roof that is hipped to the left. The mill occupies the left side of the structure and has a replaced split boarded door, along with a replaced window to the left. On the right side, there is a replaced stair light and a small vented window in the upper storey. The warehouse on the right side has a split boarded door, with two replaced windows in each storey to its right. The left end wall of the mill includes a rubble-stone wheelpit and a late 19th-century high-breastshot waterwheel made of cast iron, featuring wrought iron buckets and a sole plate, manufactured by S Kelly of Cardigan. The replaced windows are adorned with yellow-brick dressings. An additional lower projection has been added to the right gable end of the warehouse.
The rear of the building faces higher ground towards the road, with openings positioned at upper-storey level. The mill has a split boarded door on the left, a shuttered vent above it to the upper right below the eaves, a 2-light window further right, and a catslide-roofed outshut with a boarded door in its side wall. The upper storey of the warehouse is double-fronted, featuring a central door with tall round-headed panels, flanked by 2-pane sash windows with marginal glazing.
Although the original waterwheel has been replaced by a Lister diesel engine, it still turns. Late 19th-century machinery remains in use, operating three pairs of stones, including a pair of French burrs.
