Description

Portland House is a terraced house and shop that shares a similar design with No 13 and maintains the same roofline as Nos 11-17. It features three bays and two storeys, topped with a slate gabled roof, end chimneys, and deep eaves. The facade is painted roughcast with stucco dressings, including a sill band and long and short quoins on both sides of the first floor, as well as channelled piers on the ground floor. There is a plinth at the base.

The windows are adorned with vermiculated keys and shouldered surrounds on the upper floor and the left-hand ground floor openings, all fitted with plate-glass 2-pane horned sash windows. The window bays are slightly offset to the left.

The central house door and the shop front to the right are housed in a shared casing that features three pilasters, a narrow frieze, a cornice, and a flat top with a blind-box over the shopfront. The house door is a 20th-century design with a plain rectangular overlight above it. The shop to the right has an earlier 20th-century half-glazed recessed door to the left, which also has a plain rectangular overlight, along with a panelled soffit and left reveal. This door includes a fielded panel and a carved segmental curved panel at the base of the plate glass pane with a cambered head. The shop has a single pane canted into the door and a plate glass front pane with brass framing and an angle shaft.

The interior of the shop has been altered.
