Description
The Limes is a late 18th century Georgian building, believed to have been constructed around 1790. It is a three-storey structure with a basement and features a two-window rendered front. The building is often referred to as "Big House" and was divided into separate units around 1900. It has a slate roof with dentiled eaves and brick chimney stacks, with a later addition to the right and a rubble chimney breast on the left end wall. The façade includes three-light horned sash windows, with a four-storey splayed bay to the left. The central entrance is raised and accessed by parallel rubble steps, featuring a fine open pedimented doorcase with oval paterae supporting a bracketed entablature. The entrance has a six-panel door and a five-panel petal fanlight. A basement window remains visible to the left, while others are hidden by a raised pavement.
At the rear, there is a three-storey, two-window rubble cross range. This section has various irregularly spaced sash, pivot, and casement windows, with brick voussoirs to the left. The porch that led to the panelled door has been removed, and the door is now accessed from a small terrace.
There are outbuildings attached at the rear, and a rubble wall lines the drive to the north. Inside, the property retains a classically detailed fireplace, along with egg and dart and acanthus cornices, and panelled doors.
