Description
Mwyndy House is a late Georgian two-storey house featuring a three-bay central range, which is the original part of the house, flanked by two higher bays on the left side and a single bay on the right. The walls are rendered and painted cream, and the roof is slate, with some replacement sections and three rendered ridge stacks. The entrance is marked by a central pedimented doorcase with fluted pilasters and a three-panel door. The windows are sash throughout, except for the additional bay on the right, which has a canted bay window beneath a three-light casement, and a similar canted bay window on the lower left.
On the right gable end, there are stone steps leading to a boarded cellar door on the left side, and a gabled half-lit porch on the right side, featuring double doors with round-headed panels. The left gable end has the stub wall of a former conservatory set back from the rear angle and a raked buttress. The rear of the house is mainly constructed of rubble stone and is dominated by an integral full-height gabled projection flanked by outshuts. Most of the rear windows have been altered, except for a hornless sash window on the right side above a blocked doorway, with a raked buttress set back from the right end.
Although not inspected, it is reported that the house retains some original detailing, including a Regency-style room on the west end with a tall timber chimneypiece featuring volute supports and a gilt overmantel. The lounge has an exposed timber bressumer over the chimney and gothic doors leading to the dining room, which has a Tudor stone chimneypiece. There is also some original panelling on the window splays and fielded doors upstairs.
