Description
12 Guildhall Square is a terraced house that has been converted into commercial premises. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof with a timber modillion eaves cornice. The facade is set at an obtuse angle to the similar front of No 11. The building has three storeys and a two-window range of 16-pane hornless sash windows, with a 20th-century shop front below that includes a deep fascia and a door to the left.
Inside, there is a fine closed string staircase with stick balusters, a ramped rail, and turned newels, which ascends in four flights to the top floor. The first-floor front room features a cornice and a six-panel door with fielded panels, while the rear room also has a six-panel door with sunk panels and a wall cupboard on each side of the fireplace. The upper floor includes another six-panel door with sunk panels. Although covered over, there is said to be a small plaster ceiling rose, cornice, and fireplace remaining on the ground floor. The property has a deep cellar accessed by 13 steps, which contains two heavy beams and two inserted beams. Additionally, there are three arched recesses on the party wall to No 11 with corbelled tops to the piers, and two blocked openings on the front wall, one with a brick head and the other with a stone head.
