Description

11 Guildhall Square is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It features a red brick exterior in Flemish bond with a close-eaved slate roof and 20th-century gutter boards at the eaves. The building has three storeys and a cellar, with two bays facing the square and three bays on Blue Street, including a chamfered angle between the two elevations.

The upper floors have hornless 16-pane sash windows, which are adorned with brick voussoirs and painted stone sills. On the front left, there is a lead rainwater head featuring the Prince of Wales feathers, along with a downpipe that has crossed acorns on the brackets. The former double bow-fronted shop front has been altered, with bowed windows containing 20 panes each flanking a 20th-century glazed door, all within a common casing of pilasters and a cornice. While the cornice is original, the windows have been shortened by one pane to create a larger fascia. The building also has a rubble stone plinth with voussoirs from blocked cellar windows.

The chamfered angle of the building displays a large 19th-century painted metal coffee pot attached to the first floor. The Blue Street elevation features 16-pane sashes on the upper floors and a similar sash on the ground floor right. The ground floor left has a renewed 28-pane bow-fronted shop window, and the rubble stone plinth includes segmental-headed cellar openings. The canted angle on the southwest side has a similar 16-pane sash on both upper floors, along with four steps leading up to a pedimented doorcase that contains a 20th-century door. The open pediment, supported by console brackets, may be original.

The ground floor has been altered throughout in the 20th century.
