Description
This former hotel, now converted into flats above commercial premises, dates from the 19th century. It is three storeys high and features a slate close-eaved roof with a modern brick chimney stack on the left. The front is painted stucco and consists of three bays, with 12-pane horned sash windows on the upper floors set in openings that have thin stuccoed surrounds and narrow bands at the sill levels.
On the ground floor, there is a modern window in a timber casing to the left, which is in an old opening. The centre and right sections have a modern shop front, featuring a central door and a shop window with four long panes, all framed in timber casing with pilasters and a fascia.
The rear of the building was altered in the late 20th century, featuring a flat-roofed ground floor addition and metal stairs leading to the upper floor flats, which have two doors on each floor.
During a conversion to flats, a contemporary staircase with balusters covered over and slender turned newels was noted in 1981 but has since been removed.
