Description
The barn range at Barley Mount is a Grade II listed structure consisting of a large double-door barn with a double cartshed and possibly a stable, all lofted to the left. There is an added three-bay outbuilding located downslope at a much lower level due to the fall in the ground. The barn features a broad hipped end to the roof on the right side, and it is possible that it was originally hipped at the other end as well, with the lofted section added later, although there is no clear building joint to confirm this. The barn is covered with corrugated iron, while the lofted range has a slate roof.
The barn includes two large cambered-headed doorways with stone voussoirs, although the left doorway is obscured by 20th-century sliding metal doors. The lofted range has two cambered-headed cart entries on the right and a door to the left of center, all featuring stone voussoirs. There is a loft door directly above the right cart entry, with the door head breaking the eaves under the slated gable.
At the right end of the barn, at a lower level, is a whitewashed stone addition, possibly a cowhouse, which has a corrugated metal roof and three doors. Two of these doors have lintels positioned under the eaves, while the third has a timber lintel that is slightly lower due to the slope of the ground.
