Description
Cilsan Bridge is a fine stone bridge built with three equal spans, designed to withstand the notorious flooding of the River Towy. It features high semi-elliptical arches, each with a span of about 18 meters. The bridge is constructed from squared limestone common masonry in small courses, with ashlar dressings used for the arches, cutwaters, and parapets. The cutwaters have a small offset at mid-height and a sloping top, extending up to parapet level as shallow pilasters. The carriageway is wide, flanked by low parapets on each side, which have grey limestone copings. At the approaches, the carriageway widens, and the parapets are made from a rougher masonry.
