Description
Templeton Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse with a front elevation featuring three windows, facing east towards the village street. The front is rendered and painted, topped with a slated roof that has a tile ridge. The main entrance is located left of center, leading into a cross-passage, with a corresponding door on the rear elevation.
On the northern side, there is a very large lateral chimney that projects nearly one meter from the front wall, while the southern room has a smaller projection that may have been a second lateral chimney. The main chimney has a slight batter at the front and sides near the ground level. Its sides gather from the first floor to the eaves, while the front remains in the same plane. The chimney features a heavy capping at eaves level, and above that, a large shaft set diagonally rises for about another three meters. The potential second chimney on the southern room is straight-sided and fronted, ending at eaves level with a small projection of the main roof. The windows are sash style, with four panes, where the lower windows are larger than the upper ones.
At the rear, the house faces the farmyard and is also rendered. There is a small window on the ground floor and a boarded rear door leading to the cross passage. To the left (north) of the rear elevation is a two-storey wing that contains the kitchen, featuring a large end-chimney with a stack over one meter square. In the angle between this wing and the main block, there is a gabled stairs turret with a small upper window. To the right, there is a single-storey attached shed with a boarded door, along with a later lean-to addition to the main wing.
The farmhouse has a two-unit plan with a cross passage that separates a smaller one-window room from a larger two-window room, which is served by the large lateral chimney. Behind this larger room is the staircase, which is of 17th-century type, consisting of three flights surrounding a large square masonry pier.
