Description
The schoolroom to Albany Chapel is an Edwardian free-style building, featuring painted roughcast walls and a slate roof. The front gable is coped, with lead-covered coping situated between flat-topped outer piers. It has a raised plinth and a moulded string course. The windows have been renewed with small-paned casements; the first floor includes a central triple window flanked by single windows on each side, all with moulded sills. There are flat dripmoulds over the outer windows, while the central window is flanked by raised piers and has a flat dripmould over the piers and a semicircular hood above, complete with a long keystone. The string course projects forward over the outer piers and the two central piers that flank a large arched doorway, which is set in a coved surround with red brick intermittent rustications and a painted keystone. The doorway features double doors and a large fanlight with small panes. Each side of the doorway has a double window with a long keystone and moulded sill. The plinth also contains two foundation stones dated 1908.
On the side facing the forecourt, there is a raised pier to the right, which is flat-topped and has a string course at mid-height, similar to the main facade. Above this pier is a coped shouldered gable that sits over two long 12-pane sash stair lights, both with dripmoulds and moulded sills. To the left, the eaves are lower, covering four windows: the first two are full-length small-paned windows arranged in three tiers with two lights each, the third is a double 12-pane horned sash above a flat-roofed link to the chapel, and the fourth is a single 12-pane sash. The roof features a copper ventilator on the ridge. The interior was not inspected but was renovated in 2005.
