Description
The Former Captain Superintendent's Office is a two-storey building constructed from tooled grey squared limestone, topped with an asbestos hipped roof and featuring corniced stone stacks. It has a basement and a window arrangement of 1-4-1, with the entrance bays at either end set back. The building includes an ashlar plinth, rusticated quoins, a first-floor sill band, a cornice, and a parapet. The windows, which are all boarded over, were reported in 1981 to contain 12-pane sashes and are set in flush ashlar surrounds. Each end bay on the ground floor features a tall ashlar doorcase with a cornice supported by consoles, leading to double 3-panel doors with a 4-pane overlight. The end elevations each have one window, while the northwest rear angle shows marks of a demolished section, with the main part having a four-window rear. The front area is adorned with fine heavy spearhead railings on a low plinth. The building has been derelict since 1993.
