Description
Hayes Farmhouse and Cartsheds is a two-storey building with three windows, featuring a symmetrical Georgian design that faces south towards a walled lawn. To the north, there is a two-storey kitchen wing. The exterior is roughcast on all sides, topped with a slate roof that has a tile ridge and rendered end-chimneys. The windows are 12-pane with hornless sashes, rendered reveals, and slate sills. The front door consists of six panels.
At the end of the rear wing, there is a large chimney that has been blocked off from the house but can still be accessed from the nearby range of cart-sheds. This chimney houses a very large brick-lined baking oven, approximately 1 meter in diameter. Both this chimney and the chimneys of the main range feature dripstones and capping.
Adjacent to the kitchen wing is a two-bay cartshed building that is also two storeys high. It is constructed of rubble masonry and has a slate roof. Above, there are casement windows. The cartshed features two segmental arches supported by massive piers.
